Autumn 2024 Newsletter

Autumn is a fabulous time in the garden with fiery foliage lighting up the borders alongside oaty ornamental grasses and fading perennials. For many it’s a time to slow down in the garden but at Modular we’re busier than ever designing, building and planting.

We also have some very exciting news for 2025.

Modular will be exhibiting a Show Garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2025 sponsored by Project Giving Back. We have designed the ‘The Pathway Garden’ for the charity Pathway who provide access to NHS health care for homeless people and help them to transition to an improved and safe lived experience.

The garden has been designed by Modular MD Allon Hoskin and our Senior Designer and Landscape Architect Robert Beaudin.

Pathway Chief Executive Alex Bax says “Gardens have always been spaces for healing and recovery, whether for individuals or entire communities. With the help of Project Giving Back and Modular, we want to use The Pathway Garden to spread understanding of the health inequalities faced by people experiencing homelessness, as well as the solutions that exist to get their lives onto better pathways through our work with our NHS partners.”

SGD Awards

Modular are proud to be sponsoring the Society of Garden Designers Planting Award at the awards ceremony in February 2025. We are industry leaders and work with many SGD registered designers in search of excellence in our field. It should be a good evening and who knows, we may even have an award winner on our table?

On site

We have several projects in construction at the moment.

Dorset. We’re installing the soft landscape for a garden designed by Claire Greener near Corfe Castle in Dorset. Our scope of works includes sculpting the landscape and installing all the planting including semi mature trees. Swales and contours seeded with wildflower meadows wrap around the impressive property with stunning views out to Corfe Castle. The centre piece of the garden is the entrance courtyard that includes a variety of impressive trees.

Hampstead. We are building and planting both front and back gardens for a property in Hampstead designed by the renowned landscape architect Arabella Lennox-Boyd. Modular are currently finishing off the hard landscaping before tree and hedge planting at the beginning of December. We are also looking forward to planting the herbaceous plants in early spring 2025 and will be looking after the garden with a highly-skilled maintenance team to ensure the garden develops to Arabella’s exacting standards.

Wandsworth. Our design and build project in Wandsworth is going well on site with a view to planting the mature specimens this autumn.

Devon. We have a team in Devon working on upgrading elements at our coastal project. A wooden deck overhanging a cliff (!) was put in many years ago by another contractor. We’re rebuilding it to a high spec using a composite frame and composite decking to cope with the harsh salt laden winds. As part of this phase of works we are laying the pool terrace paving, installing balustrade guarding supplied by S3i, and improving the infinity edge detailing on the swimming pool. Lots of finished photos to follow!

Bulb planting

Our planting teams have been planting bulbs all over the country! Bulbs are fabulous value as once planted most (e.g. narcissi, crocus, Camassia, alliums) will naturalise and return year on year.
